Andres Villas Boas in London discussing terms with Chelsea after resigning as FC Porto manager
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Porto-c39186 have confirmed that manager Andres Villas Boas has offered his resignation, which the club has accepted. It has also been said that the Portuguese manager will be paying his release clause of £13.3 million.
A statement released by the club said:
“Porto can inform the stock market that FC Porto has received notification from its coach http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/André-c5611 Villas-Boas, of the intention to resign with immediate effect. As such his employment contract shall be considered rescinded upon deposit of the stipulated
amount.”
Villas Boas has resigned to take the manager’s post at English Premier League side Chelsea, replacing Carlo Ancelotti. The Italian manager was sacked at the end of last season and after his departure the Blues were linked with all the top managers.
The likes of Jose Mourinho, Guus Hiddink, Pep Guardiola, Marco van Basten, Harry Redknapp and Mark Hughes were linked with replacing Ancelotti, but in the end Roman Abramovich, the Chelsea owner has decided on Andres Villas Boas.
Even though Villas Boas is only 33-year-old and has a release clause of £13.3m, making him as costly as some of the players, he has more than proved himself at FC Porto. The young manager became the youngest ever manager to win the UEFA Europa League when
he led Porto to the European Cup last season.
Apart from that Villas Boas currently holds the record for going unbeaten, as he led the Portuguese giants to the Primeira League, along with the Portuguese Supercup and the Portuguese Cup title. He is undoubtedly the most successful manager for his age,
which is why he has emerged as the winner to take over the hot seat at Stamford Bridge.
Reports reveal that Villas Boas is currently in London, discussing personal terms with Chelsea and is expected to hold a press conference soon. An official statement by the Blues to confirm the appointment of Andres Villas Boas as manager is yet to come.
As to the question of whether Villas Boas has actually paid his own release clause is yet to be confirmed. It is believed that even if the new http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 manager pays the release clause, he will be reimbursed by the Chelsea owner.
