Andrew Anacona wins fifth stage as in 2011 Giro Ciclistico d’ltalia: Cycling News
Caparrini Le Village Vibert team’s Andrew Anacona won the fifth stage of 2011 Giro Ciclistico d’ltalia on Tuesday, June 14, while Mattita Cattaneo took the overall general classification.
Andrew took a total of 4 hours, 31 minutes and 17 seconds to cover a distance of 161.7 kilometres in the Campo-Imperatore.
Andrew easily defeated Fabio Aru of Palazzago in the final circuit who was 7 seconds behind the winner. Stefano Agostini of G.S. Zalf Desiree Fior was also in good form, but he grabbed the third spot with difference of 25 seconds adrift.
The race leader, Mattita Cattaneo, was in 14th place with a difference of 49 seconds ahead of ILnur Zakarin.
The three Italian cyclists, Matteo Belli, Danilo Celano and Angelo Gargaro were disqualified.
With few kilometres left in the race, a group of three riders, which included, Mirko Puccioni (Caparrini Le Village Vibert), Fabio Chinello (S.C. F.W.R. Bata Ciclismo) and Davide Mucelli (Hoppla' Truck Italia Mavo Infissi) went ahead of the peloton.
All of them were unable to gain an advantage of not more than three minutes, However, Mirko maintained his pace and took the maximum three points.
A new breakaway of three cyclists was formed over the top of the first climb which included, Matteo Trentin, Alessio Camilli and Francesco Lasca. Alessio tried his best to catch the Italian, but Matteo maintained his pace and won the second sprint of the
stage.
The Poland rider, Alessio Camilli, won the first Mountain of the race ahead of Anton and Alfonso. However, Andrew was titled with the King of Mountain (KOM) ahead of Fabio and Stefano.
Mattita Cattaneo of Trevigiani Dynamon Bottoli took the overall lead with a timing of 19 hours, 9 minutes and 32 seconds. Siarhei Novikau was the runner-up with 8 seconds behind the Italian.
The stage winner, Andrew Anacona, finished third in overall classification with a difference of 51 seconds.
Moreno Moser took lead in overall point’s classification with 68 points ahead of Stefano. Emiliano Bette took overall classification with 8 points, while Stefano Agostini won the Mountain classification with 18 points.
The next stage will start in Giulianova and end in Alba Adriatica. All the riders will cover a small distance of 12 kilometres.
