General Manager Bob Myers expects Andrew Bogut to be suiting up for the season opener ....
Golden State Warriors hopes for next season mainly revolve around the fitness of Andrew Bogut and Stephen Curry i.e. if they want to get out of the bottom of the NBA picture.
In order to have real shot, posting up a competitive season and having a real go for a playoff berth in the Western Conference, they will certainly need the services of these two stars. Both players had ankle surgeries which caused them to miss most of last season and having them ready for the start of the new campaign will certainly be a tough task.
According to latest reports though, Bogut’s path to recovery seems to be ahead of schedule. GM Bob Myers confirmed that the former Milwaukee Bucks big man is expected to be fit for the start of the season.
“Yes, we expect that,” Myers said. “That’s just me prophesizing, but all indications are that will be the case. We’re hoping that he is in there for us on opening night. But if he needs two games, if the difference is waiting because he is not quite there, then we’ll wait. But we expect Bogut to play opening night.”
However, for the Warriors to be really competing for a playoff position in the West next season, they will not only need Bogut to be there fit and healthy, but at his best.
If the Aussie star is able to play up to his potential, he can add great value to a young but extremely talented Warriors roster, which loves to play an attacking brand of basketball.
In his time with the Bucks, Bogut had an average of 11.3 points and 8.3 rebounds but his real productivity came on the defensive end of the floor.
Defense is something the Warriors need to work on and Bogut can be a very good lead in this regard. For now though, the Warriors will be hoping that the centre returns back to his full fitness and then look at the future course of action. Hurrying him on to the court is certainly not the way.
