Andrew Bogut scheduled to undergo ankle surgery, sidelined for London Olympic Games – NBA Update
Andrew Bogut and injury are two words that have become synonymous with each other. The Aussie big who made it to the Golden State Warriors during the midseason trade is scheduled to have arthroscopic surgery on his injured left
ankle in the coming week. The surgery will cause the centre to miss the Olympic Games in London this summer.
General Manager of the Warriors, Larry Riley, said that the operation will take place next week in Van Nuys, California.
Bogut fractured his left ankle on January 25th against the Houston Rockets while playing for the Milwaukee Bucks. The star centre from Australia is expected to recover in six weeks and will be back when the next season
starts. But it is now certainty that he will be missing the London Games where he was hopeful of representing his home country of Australia.
"After seeing a specialist I have decided it would be best to get my ankle cleaned out via arthroscopic surgery. There is simply not enough time to rehab and be fully fit for the games” said Bogut on Twitter recently.
Bogut was very disappointed that he will not be able to represent his country in the Summer Olympics, and understandably so since the Olympic Games are the highest ground where one can represent one’s country.
“Shattered thinking about missing the 2012 Olympics. They truly are a life-changing experience and something that you will always remember" said Bogut.
Bogut was the number 1 overall draft pick of the 2005 NBA draft but has seen his career marred by injuries. He missed the end of the 2009-10 NBA season when he dislocated his elbow and right hand after falling hard on the floor.
He had to go through a tough recovery and even after that, his injury troubled him throughout the last season.
He also injured his back in the 2008-09 NBA season and had to sit out for a considerable time in that season as well. Now this injury has got him out till next season, sidelining him for the Olympics.
Bogut has had a successful NBA career so far, averaging 12.7 points, 9.3 rebounds and 1.6 blocks per game. His recent move to the Golden State Warriors is expected to be a good one for the Warriors as they are weak at the centre
and have been looking for a strong option there to balance the team for quite some time now. When he returns next season, his team will be looking to him to help them become a playoff contender.
