Warriors star player still recovering from foot surgery as season opens in few weeks.
The Golden State Warriors have had a dream start to their preseason, winning both their opening two games, including one against the Los Angeles Lakers. The Warriors look like a motivated group, and have a good team morale and chemistry going, which is making them look at the possibility of reaching the playoffs this season. But for that to happen, the Warriors need to play to their strengths and have no room for margin since their roster is not as deep as some of the other teams. And they were dealt a huge blow when they got to know that Andrew Bogut is still not 100 percent locked to be on the court when the season opens in a few weeks.
Bogut is one of the most important players in the Warriors roster, but has been recovering from a surgically repaired foot and although he has been playing in the preseason fixtures, he still feels a bit of pain after long outings and is not sure if he will be at his physical best when the Warriors open their season on October 31st. Matt Steinmetz of CSNBayArea.com had a talk with Bogut about his injury and recovery, and Bogut was not very confident.
“Just running, dunking, cutting … those are the main three things that I have problems with and I’m starting to respond well to that. But there’s still some tightness when it gets fatigued and that’s the main problem. It gets fatigued and my running pattern changes a little bit and that’s going to cause some problems. Otherwise, short bursts of 30- and 40-minute sessions are great and I’m doing well,” said Bogut.
Bogut still has a few weeks before the season starts and could very well be 100 percent by that time. However, considering the vigorous NBA season that awaits him, it would be better for him to be 100 percent sure and risk free before returning as risking further damage could be even more consequential and damaging for both him and his aspiring team. Bogut and Stephen Curry are both important for the Warriors and both are recovering from their respective injuries. The team needs to pray that luck is on their side in a few weeks from now.
