Andrew Bogut wants teammates to take responsibility in order to make the next climb – NBA News
Andrew Bogut is desperate to return to the basketball court after having to deal with injury issues over the past three seasons of his professional career. There is no denying the fact that Bogut does have injury issues, and those issues have forced him to miss numerous games over the past few seasons, but Bogut is a tough competitor and looks to once again, return to his team next season and help them achieve a better result than the previous season. And for that, he feels that the team needs to take accountability for themselves and each other, and call out the person who they feel is slacking.
Bogut was talking to NBA.com where he talked about the importance of having teammates call you out when you make a mistake, because being accountable for your actions is the only way the Warriors can improve as a unit.
“If there’s not one fight in practice during the season, something’s wrong. Guys aren’t competing, guys aren’t there for the right reason, guys are just punching the clock. If something needs to be said and someone doesn’t like it, you’ve got to go out and say, ‘Hey, that’s part of being the leader,’ “said Bogut.
Bogut has hit a crucial nerve here, and all championship teams have talked about the benefits of holding one self and each other accountable. The Golden State Warriors have a good unit together for next season, one that is mature enough to understand when and where to call out players and how to motivate people around them to not slack and always give their 100 percent. And in order to take the next step in the NBA, they will need to take missed opportunities and bad plays more seriously, so that they can improve.
“A responsibility of mine is making sure that we’re staying on top of each other, staying focused. If I miss a box out or if I miss a help D and David Lee comes after me, I want that. If I don’t get it then I’m going to be asking questions why. I expect that from them. They should expect the same,” added Bogut.
