Andrew Bogut working hard to return for Golden State Warriors ahead of next season – NBA News
Golden State Warriors centre Andrew Bogut is looking forward to make a return to action in time as he recovers from an ankle surgery back in his home country of Australia.
The injury prone Bogut is unsure if he will be available for the preseason exhibition games but is definitely looking forward to being on the roster when the Warriors open the next season on October 31st against the
Phoenix Suns.
Bogut underwent surgery on his fractured ankle on April 27th to clean out bone spurs. He sustained the injury back on January 25th during a game against the Houston Rockets after landing awkwardly.
The fracture caused him to miss the rest of the season. At that time, he was playing for the Milwaukee Bucks.
He was traded to the Warriors in exchange for Monta Ellis on March, but is yet to play for them.
"I definitely want to be ready for training camp. I think it will be close. The immediate goal with all of this is to make sure I'm ready for the first game. Whether that means playing only half the preseason games, it's just about
being smart with my ankle. There's no point in trying to get ready for Oct. 1 when an extra week could significantly help. It's just a matter of monitoring it very smartly and not doing anything stupid,” said Bogut who was the number 1 pick of the 2005 NBA
Draft.
The Aussie big has been rehabbing from injury back home, and missed the 2012 London Olympics due to this as well.
It would have been his third Olympic appearance for the Australian side had he been healthy, and is disappointed that he missed out on the opportunity.
Bogut has been struggling with different kinds of injuries the past few years in the NBA. He missed the end of the 2009-2010 season when he dislocated his right elbow, sprained his right wrist and broke his right hand after a hard
fall to the floor. The injuries bothered him into the 2010-2011 season as well. He is now looking to make full use of his rehab time to work on his body and completely recover from all his injuries, so that he can return to action in full fitness.
The Warriors have assembled a good roster over the offseason, but are anxiously waiting for the return of Bogut and point guard Stephen Curry. Curry underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right ankle on April 25th, and
is now back working out at the team facility. The return of both him and Bogut will put the team in a good position for next season.
