Andrew Buckle shares lead in the second round of Fresh Express Classic
Australian Andrew Buckle continued with his impressive performance at the Fresh Express classic, extending his first round lead to the second round at the TPC Stonebrae, San Francisco.
Buckle, who is looking for his second win on the Nationwide Tour, might not be completely satisfied with his score. He is now accompanied by three other contenders at the top slot by the end of second round.
Russell Knox, who was one shot behind Buckle in the first round, is now sharing the lead with Buckle alongside Mathew Goggin and Garrett Sapp.
Buckle started off the day with a disappointing bogey at the 11th, after he chose to play the back nine first. He made up for the loss with a birdie at the 15th, after completing three straight pars for 6-under.
The Australian started off the front nine exhibiting better control on his tee and finished seven straight pars with a birdie at fifth. His charge was pulled back with a bogey at the seventh but he finished the round on a promising note, with a birdie again
at the ninth.
Sturdy Scot, Knox, seems to be improving with every round of competitive golf he plays. Although starting off with a bogey at second, he went over to card birdies at the third, eighth and 15th.
Goggin also stumbled on a bogey at the fifth but bounced back to top with birdies at third and fifth. He was poised to grab the lead all for himself with splendid birdies at the ninth and eleventh, but a bogey at the 13th pulled him back. He again
birdied the 14th and 15th to finish off with 7-under.
Though Knox and Sapp have never won on Nationwide Tour, Goggin is all the more familiar with the top slot having won on three occasions on the Tour. Goggin also won the opening session of the Tour the Panama Claro Championship in February.
No less than four players are contending for the fifth place including Mathew Giles, Scott Weatherly, J.J Killeen, and Troy Kelly. Fresh Express Classic is the fourth tournament on the tour and the first one to be played in US for this year.
Brett Wetterich won the Chitimacha Louisiana Open last month while Brendan Pappas won the Pacific Rubiales Bogota Open.
