Andrew Bynum, Carmelo Anthony, Kevin Love: Bettor.com’s 2011-2012 All NBA 2nd Team (Part 2) – NBA Feature
Center: Andrew Bynum
The 7 foot centre of the Los Angeles Lakers has gradually developed into a formidable force in the paint. Andrew Bynum has had a terrific season, capped off by his career high 30 rebound performance.
Averaging 18.7 points and 11.8 rebounds per game, Bynum is becoming a part of the Lakers offense and dominating the glass on the defensive end. His size and strength allow him to post up on the offense and box out opponents on
the defense. He also averages 1.9 blocks per game, which is a good addition. His presence carries great weight and alters driving opponents. This year has been Bynum’s year and if it were not for Dwight Howard and his dominance, Bynum may well have been in
the 1st team.
Small Forward: Carmelo Anthony
Carmelo Anthony had a mixed season this year, with highs and lows. The New York Knicks as a team went through a roller coaster ride, ridden with injuries. Their coach resigned from his job during mid season after which Mike Woodson
was hired as interim coach.
Under him, Anthony played some of the best games of his career as he seemed to be flourishing under the new system. Anthony is a talented scorer and gave proof of that with a couple of 30 point plus games near the end of the season.
His performance against Chicago in April was probably his best of the season, in which he nailed two three pointers, one to send the game into overtime and the second to win the game.
Anthony is averaging 22.6 points, 6.3 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game this season. He led his team into the playoffs, averaging above 30 points in the month of April to secure a few wins and ensure the Knicks reached the playoffs.
As an individual, his talent in the small forward position is well recorded.
Power Forward: Kevin Love
The man who drew all the attention towards himself this season, Kevin Love was in serious contention for the Most Valuable Player. He was putting in 20 plus points and loads of rebounds on a regular basis, and his team, the Minnesota
Timberwolves, were in playoff contention.
However, after the injury of Ricky Rubio, the Wolves started losing game and eventually fell out of playoff contention, but even then Love’s numbers just did not fall. He averaged 26 points and 13.3 rebounds this season, which
is an outstanding combination.
Love has been the key player and a star for the Timberwolves and averaged 20.2 points. He is not only a potent force in the paint area, he is an excellent shooter as well and won the 3 point contest at the All Star Weekend as a
proof of that, beating Kevin Durant in the process.
Love is a combination of shooting ability and powerful low post positioning. He is the ideal candidate to fill the Power Forward position in the 2nd team, at least for this year.
