Andrew Bynum has much to prove at the Los Angeles Lakers next NBA season (Part 2)
Re-establish his Reputation
The first thing Andrew Bynum should do is to re-establish his reputation at the Los Angeles Lakers and remove the tag of an eccentric self centre player.
He also has to make some improvement in repo on the floor. There is no doubt that Bynum plays good defence and is a floor marshal as far as choking the life of opposition offenses is concerned, but he is generally considered as a dirty player, who likes to assert his physicality.
There is no finesse about his work ethics and as such his toughness is more in the body and less in mind. He can be easily ruffled by the opposition and it is something that the opposition teams have been taking advantage of for quite some time.
Also, it’s about time that Bynum shows some intensity on the offensive end of the floor as well. The occasional dunks and surges down the lane come with the job, but if he wants to etch his names as one of the all time greats, he has to bring more variety in his game. At present, he is a non-entity from the perimeter and his low post game also needs a massive uplift.
The NBA is in a lockout, but whenever the next season begins, Bynum will not be able to take part in the first five games, courtesy a sudden rush of blood against J.J. Barea in the conference semifinals against the Dallas Mavericks. However, when he does comeback, he will have to concentrate solely on his game, especially the offensive side of it. This goal can only be achieved if he brings in more maturity to his attitude.
Support of the Buss Family
Bynum has been the blue-eyed boy of the Buss family ever since he made his way at the Lakers. The owners of the franchise were the ones who rooted up for him when Kobe Bryant demanded him to be traded and they have been the ones who are still backing him up now.
However, with Bynum’s eccentric attitude and not so impressive play, time and patience might be running out.
The Lakers want Bynum to evolve as the next big thing after Kobe, but what they presently have is a peevish big man, who thinks that he is untouchable. The Lakers owners have indicated that they want changes at the franchise and the induction of Mike Brown as a head coach was the first step. If Bynum doesn’t raise his game in the next NBA season, he might be the change number two.
