Andrew Bynum injured his left knee while bowling – NBA News
The Philadelphia 76ers brought Andrew Bynum into the team in an attempt to rebuild the franchise and make them playoff contenders. Bynum was considered the next franchise player of the Sixers and the future of the franchise. However, ever since arriving in Philadelphia, Bynum has not taken part in any game in the preseason or the regular season, and his return to the court continues to meet delays. Bynum is current rehabbing from an injury in his right knee, but was given more bad news when he was told that his left knee has been injured as well.
Bynum missed the whole of the preseason and is yet to start in any regular season game as he continues to recover from his knee injury. He was scheduled for a late December/ Early January return to the court, but that timeline might need further thinking as he was told that he had bruised his left knee as well after going bowling last Saturday.
Bynum underwent a new MRI last Tuesday which revealed that he had done some new damage to his left knee, even though he says he did not twist or fall down while bowling.
"I didn't twist it or fall or nothing. It kind of broke off cartilage and it made the bone bruise bigger. That's the most important thing and why everyone is being so cautious. I can't answer and (doctors) can't now either, we're trying to figure out what's going on,” said Bynum about the new injury.
Bynum had just recently begun some low impact training and was looking forward to returning to action sometime in January. The team was also happy with his recovery and had some positive news from his end after a lot of patience. However, the new injury can prolong his time away from the game, although team officials have not changed his timeline for return in light of the new injury. Bynum continues to stress that bowling involves the same amount of contact and impact as some of the exercises he has recently started doing as part of his rehab.
"I don't think anybody could've told (me) I couldn't do that. I was doing squatting and low-impact training. It is what it is. The cartilage is in a weakened state,” added Bynum.
Bynum is currently in the final year of his contract and will be a free agent next summer. At such a time, he would want to get back on the floor and remind the world why he is one of the best centres in the game, but will have to wait longer than expected to do that.
