Andrew Cameron secures Men’s 400m freestyle crown: Day two – 2011 Australian University Games
University of Melbourne athlete, Andrew Cameron impressed the arena with her stunning performance in the freestyle swimming final heat on day two of the 2011 Australian University Games, in Gold Coast, Australia, on Wednesday, September 28. The session of
the meet conducted the Men’s 400m freestyle event.
In the corresponding race, Cameron hit the finishing wall in 4 minutes and 08.48 seconds to win gold medal on the podium. Donald Cameron of Macquarie University powered the wall in 4 minutes and 09.04 seconds to win silver title, whereas, Mark O’Donnell
secured bronze medal with a stunning mark of 4 minutes and 10.86 seconds.
Andrew Kennedy of University of New South Wales picked fourth place with a mark of 4 minutes and 15.66 seconds, while Zac Charlton of Monash University settled for fifth spot in 4 minutes and 20.43 seconds. In the corresponding splash, Dougal Hurley of University
of Melbourne earned sixth place honours with a mark of 4 minutes and 34.30 seconds.
Moreover, Harrison Pullinger of Macquarie University secured seventh position in a time of 4 minutes and 38.86 seconds. Tom Liubinas of University of Melbourne earned eighth place honours with a mark of 4 minutes and 45.03 seconds. The top-three winners
of the final heat were awarded medals after the session’s completion.
Earlier in the day, University of Melbourne’s group of four athletes including Marieke Guehrer, Grace Loh, Nicolette Lyttle and Jessica Morrison took home the Women’s 4x100m freestyle relay title by posting a sterling time of 4 minutes and 02.82 seconds.
In the corresponding swim, University of Queensland secured silver medal with a mark of 4 minutes and 15.67 seconds. Meanwhile, Bond University settled for bronze in a time of 4 minutes and 24.10 seconds.
The crowd was thrilled and gave a huge ovation to all contestants for wonderful efforts in their respective meets. These games are definitely providing a good chance to young athletes of Australia to prepare themselves hard for their advanced swimming events.
The championships are schedule to conclude on September 30.
