Andrew Cancio scheduled to take on veteran Rocky Juarez in a 10-round non-title bout – Boxing News
Andrew Cancio, the surging American pugilist, will truly be tested in one of his career’s most difficult bouts when he takes on the heavily experienced Rocky Juarez, the former WBO Latino super featherweight champion, in a 10-round bout which will be held
on June 2, 2012.
The bout will headline the pay-per-view named as ‘Solo Boxeo Tecate’ and will be televised live on TeleFutura. The ring for the bout will be stretched at Fantasy Springs Casino situated in Indio, California, United States and the event is being promoted
by Richard Schaefer of Golden Boy Promotions.
The rest of the fight card is still under consideration and more bouts will be revealed in the upcoming few days. The non-title bout will definitely be a test for the young Andrew who has been in a total 16 bouts and boasts just 13 wins.
The 23-year-old Californian pugilist has collected 11 of his total wins by knockout which is evident of the fact that he possesses some powerful fists. Cancio, also known as ‘Chango’, has collected just one loss in his career and two draw decisions.
Carlos Vinan was the man who nailed Andrew via majority decision in his favour since then the young lad has taken on five men and emphatically nailed all of them. Andrew recently collided with Gerardo Zayas, a pugilist with considerably more experience than
him.
Andrew won that bout via unanimous decision in his favour but this time it is totally different. The 32-year-old Rocky has been in a total 38 encounters and boasts 28 wins. He has lost nine bouts and none via knockout.
In addition, Rocky has nailed 20 of his opponents by sheer knockout therefore he also is a prolific pounder with a big jab. Moreover, Rocky resides at 54th seat in world rankings as compared to Andrew’s 121st.
All these factors when combined with the experience, agility, footwork and resilience factor, diminish Cancio’s chances of coming out of the ring victorious and in one piece. The only two or three facets that give Andrew an upper hand are the home town advantage,
the height and therefore the reach, and last but not the least the fact that Rocky is on a five-bout lose streak.
Unfortunately, Rocky, who has proudly held several titles, is on a declining trend as he has collected just three wins in his last 10 bouts. Andrew if capitalises the sluggishness exhibited by Rocky, can emerge victorious in fact can even collect a KO win
if he pounds Rocky with well targeted jabs.
At the same time, the bout is a golden chance for Rocky to break his long somewhat humiliating lose streak as Andrew is a brawler who has the least experience when compared to Juarez’s last five opponents.
