Andrew Carroll staying at Newcastle United
Newcastle United’s Andrew Carroll has said that he wishes to stay at the club. Earlier, the striker had been reported to be linked with a move to a bigger club, with Chelsea FC and Arsenal FC quite keen on securing his services.
However, the 21-year-old has put an end to all speculations regarding his future and has vowed to remain at St. James Park.
He said, “I'm just going to go out there and carry on doing what I have been doing. I've always worked towards being where I am now and want to stay here - it's as simple as that.”
The 6ft 3in tall striker was reportedly unsettled after the sacking of former Newcastle coach Chris Hughton, earlier this month. Carroll enjoyed a close relation with the manager who got the Magpies promoted to the Premier League after winning the Football
League Championship in 2009-2010.
Andrew duly credited the man who had played a big role in his development as a professional footballer. It was during Hughton’s managerial days when Carroll got his 1st call from Fabio Capello to be included in England’s international squad that
faced France in an international friendly match.
Carroll added, “Chris was just brilliant for me. Through the good times and bad times, he really stuck by me and it helped me achieve the things that I have. The player that I am today is down to the help he gave me and I appreciate everything he has done
for me. Everybody was sad to see him go. No matter what happens, we always say we work as hard as we can. Chris was in charge and now Alan Pardew, but it won’t change the way we work.”
Alan Pardew took over the job from Hughton on 9th December and 2 days later recorded his 1st victory as the manager by defeating Liverpool FC 3-1.
The Englishman had a memorable outing against the Reds, as he was on the score sheet and also managed to register an assist.
The win against the Merseysiders pulled The Toons up the table into 8th place, with 22 points from 17 games. However, the Magpies have a tough fixture list coming in the festive period. They travel to Birmingham City next weekend, before facing
3rd placed Manchester City at home.
After the match against City, Newcastle head to north-London to play Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane in the English Premier League.
