Andrew Cashner struggles as San Diego Padres lose to Colorado Rockies 4-7 – MLB Update

Starter Andrew Cashner leaks runs in the beginning as the San Diego Padres are thrashed 4-7 by the Colorado Rockies at Petco Park, San Diego, California on September 14, 2012 in the first game of the three match series.
First inning was the most eventful one in the whole game. It saw both the teams showing the power to fight back.
As soon as the Rockies posted five runs in the top of the first, Padres replied back strongly with a grand slam in the bottom of the same inning.
The latter did not blow the lead in this inning but at least they showed they are not going to let the former win the game easily.
Unfortunately the production that Padres did in the first inning never came off again throughout the rest of the game. They were scoreless from the second through the last inning.
In the process Rockies built up their lead and took this to a level which was enough to ensure them victory.
What took the game away from the Padres was the flurry of runs that their starter Cashner gave up in little more than three innings.
He leaked 10 hits on Friday and surrendered six runs. As a result, he suffered the loss.
Following the run-spree allowed by Cashner, bouncing back successfully was not easy as was reflected by the fact that despite showing resistance Padres suffered the defeat.
First baseman Yonder Alonso was the most successful batter for the Padres on Friday. He contributed four RBIs while he connected one hit in three at-bats.
Padres’ manager Bud Black regrets the opportunities which arose but were not capitalised by them in the match. After experiencing the grand slam the momentum was on their side. Yet they failed to score even a single run after this.
"We got right back in the game with the grand slam," Bud Black said. "We had a couple of opportunities, but couldn't come away with a big hit to keep anything going."
Other than Alonso, most of the batters showed little resistance and failed at the plate badly.
In the remaining two games of the series, the Padres will be looking to work on this area. The team will make sure their batters step up consistently and produce runs.
