Andrew D´Souza outshines Alan Shekhtman in title match of XXI Pan Am Junior Team Event
Canada’s Andrew D´Souza saved his country’s honour to some extent when he overpowered Alan Shekhtman in final round of XXI Pan Am Junior Team Event on Tuesday, July 24, 2012.
Earlier, USA was leading with 2-0 but then this Men’s Singles tie gave the local crowd something to cheer about at Sherwood Park in Alberta, Canada.
This showdown lasted for 29 minutes before ending with concluding margin of 21-10 and 21-14.
The US campaigner Alan could not follow the successful trail and was down in both sets of the match whereas the opposing shuttler put an extra effort and locked the honour in laudable manner.
Andrew D´Souza, who remained invincible throughout the home event, launched an intensive attack in first set and confined his rival in the rear court.
He built pressure by putting a respectable total of 6-3 and then doubled the impact with 9-4 margin.
He played flawless badminton all the way to mid-game break and finished the first half with an indomitable figure of 11-5.
The Canadian shuttler resumed his unbeatable run after one-minute interval and raised his lead to 14-6 in no time.
Though, Alan Shekhtman showed some spark in third quarter and smacked his rival down in three uninterrupted rallies but this short campaign did not make any impact on overall score position.
Andrew D´Souza struck hard when it mattered and bagged the opening game with a notable difference of eleven points in 21-10 margin.
However, next game was not flat like the first one as the US shuttler brought life back into contest with an electrifying performance in first half of the set.
This time, Alan Shekhtman did not waste time and stepped forward immediately in the beginning.
He pocketed four points in a row and reached a commanding position of 4-0. He did not squander this initial lead and made the best out of this advantage by registering 8-3 total.
At this stage, the Canadian player switched on his best and intercepted his challenger with four successive points.
Andrew D´Souza managed to bag first half with a tight figure of 11-9 but he made the difference in later part of the game and stamped his supremacy with 21-14 score on the board.
