Andrew Dodt becomes master of aces at Nordea Masters – Golf news
Andrew Dodt aced the seventh and the 11th hole on day two of the Nordea Masters, to become the first player in the history of the European Tour to record two hole-in-ones in a single round.
The Nordea Masters is being staged at the Bro Hof Slott Golf Club, and is offering a prize purse of €1,500,000 to the participants.
Dodt, who faltered for a five-over par 77 in the opening round, needed some magic on day two to make it into the weekend and no one could have expected him to know the magic of recording aces, which brightened his chances of making
the cut.
Entering the last hole, he was six-under for the round and needed another shot to accumulate a two-under par two-day score. He held his nerves and managed to drain a birdie putt to successfully make the cut. For his brilliant performance,
he was also given with a box of champagne by the tournament sponsors.
Talking to the European Tour’s official website, the Australian said that the ace on the 11th hole, his second, really boosted his confidence, which in turn, allowed him to post a brilliant score on the leaderboard.
Currently, he is 11 strokes off the pace set by Matteo Manassero, and is sharing the 62nd spot on the leaderboard. However, if he continues on playing shots like he did on day two, he certainly has the chance to at least record
a top-10 finish this week.
“The shot at the 11th, my second, kick-started things,” said Dodt. “I made a few more birdies in between, then a couple of bogeys and I was heading the wrong way when I got to the seventh, our 16th hole. It was an eight iron, felt
a little bit heavy at the start, but right on line and it went in. I can’t get my head around it – I’m pretty proud to be the first one to do it.”
“I didn’t putt very well today so I’m glad I was able to hole with a long club!” he added.
Manassero, who became the youngest winner of the BMW PGA Championship last week, currently holds a two-stroke halfway lead over Mikko Ilonen, and is in prime position to record another European Tour victory in consecutive weeks.
