Andrew Dodt regains his form at the UBS Hong Kong Open
Andrew Dodt of Australia fired a five-under par 65 on Thursday, to finish one stroke behind the opening-round leader Javier Colomo, at the UBS Hong Kong Open.
The tournament is being played at the Hong Kong Golf Club, offering a total prize fund of US$2 million. Furthermore, the event is co-sanctioned by the Asian Tour and the European Tour.
With only one European Tour event left following this week’s event, Dodt has found his form at the right time.
The Australian, who holds the 122nd position in The Race to Dubai, desperately needs to finish the week on a high note, in a bid to make it into the top-119 in the list.
As per the European Tour’s policy, the top-119 players, at the end of the DP World Tour Championship, will have the privilege to retain their cards for the 2013 season.
With the second position in hand, entering the second round, he certainly holds the chance of making a strong surge in the list.
Talking to the European Tour’s official website, he stated that he will have to focus on his own game, rather than watching other players’ positions on the leaderboard.
“It’s hard not to think about it or notice what others around you are doing, but you just can’t think about it at all,” he said.
“You’ve got to play the shot and play the round and whatever happens, we’ll add up the scores at the end of the week and what will be, will be”.
Gary Boyd, in the meantime, carded a two-under par 68, to share the 17th spot on the leaderboard.
Boyd currently ranks 125th in The Race to Dubai. Therefore, he will have to record at least a 56th-place finish in the tournament.
Otherwise, it will become difficult for the Englishman to overhaul Rhys Davies, who holds the 119th position in the list.
“I took a more positive frame of mind to the course today, and it had instant rewards with a birdie on the first! It was obviously disappointing to finish with a bogey, but overall I would definitely have taken a 68 to start off what is a very important
week in my career,” he said.
