Andrew Ellis, Jenny Wallwork emerge as Mixed Doubles Champions of 2012 Polish Open
England’s Andrew Ellis and Jenny Wallwork forged a fruitful chemistry and proved their worth in the Mixed Doubles event of the Polish Open on Sunday, September 2, 2012.
They stamped top seeded pair Wojciech Szkudlarczyk-Agnieszka Wojtkowska in just two games and seized the crown by registering 21-13 and 21-12 scores on the board.
This final battle of the tournament remained in full swing for 29 minutes and the British campaigners stood tall to their stature in the pressure situation.
Andrew and Jenny, who were underrated earlier in this International Series, silenced the local crowd with a staggering knock.
On the other hand, the native shuttlers disappointed their supporters by kneeling down tamely in this crucial encounter.
The twosome of Wojciech-Agnieszka, who was the hot favourite to lock the honour, triggered the collapse by losing the opening match point by a huge difference.
They could not build the required coordination and dropped many valuable points straight away in the beginning.
Andrew and Jenny made the best out of their rivals’ blunder and gained an early advantage with 5-2 total. They did not lose this rhythm and kept moving forward steadily.
At mid-game break, they were in a commanding position with scoreboard flashing 11-4 margin. They played with same authoritative approach in later part of the game and confined the opposing team in the rear court.
Though, Wojciech and Agnieszka strived hard to come out of their competitors’ influence but their bad patch continued until game point situation.
They kept trailing behind and finally gave up this futile chase after reading a concluding figure of 13-21.
The second set of the match started with a couple of gruelling rallies as both contenders put all in their possession to establish a respectable lead but neither of them could make a notable difference until 5-5.
However, Andrew and Jenny prevailed in a few consecutive rallies and tipped the scale in their favour with an 11-8 margin.
British players showed consistency in their performance and widened the gap in the third quarter of the set.
They kept their challengers under huge pressure and blew them away with an unassailable lead of nine points.
Andrew and Jenny earned the right to raise the Mixed Doubles trophy by registering a favourable result of 21-12.
