http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Andrew-Flintoff-c44360 backs Kevin Pietersen to return for the Indian tour - Cricket News Update
With the English management still undecided over whether to include http://www.senore.com/Cricket/KP-Pietersen-c1806 for the upcoming Indian tour, former skipper, Andrew Flinttoff, wants ECB to give the 32-year-old a second chance.
The right-handed batsman will also find some comfort in the growing support from former and current players, with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c749 side.
Flintoff, who shared the dressing room with Pietersen during the successful Ashes campaigns of 2005 and 2009, claims that the inclusion of the star batsman would only strengthen England’s chances to conquer the ‘final frontier’.
“I don’t know what’s happened, nobody does. What we do know is that when he is playing, England are a better side and for that reason, everyone would like to see him back,” the 34-year-old said.
The former all-rounder was Pietersen’s captain on the 2006-07 Ashes tour in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 when England was thrashed with a 5-0 whitewash. The duo’s own relationship was much debated in their playing days, most notably during KP’s row with the then coach Peter
Moores in 2009.
“I get on fine with Kevin. He’s an individual and he’s an individual when he bats. When he’s scoring hundreds you just sit and watch and think ‘how does he do that?” Flintoff said.
After startling the cricketing world with his abrupt decision to retire from One-day cricket, the middle-order batsman was involved in a tiff with the ECB once they refused the player from picking a particular format ( T20).
However, things took a turn for the worse, when he was allegedly blamed for sending provocative texts to unknown South African players, soon after hitting a brilliant century during the drawn second Test at Headingley.
The episode cost him his place in the team as he was dropped from the decisive Lord’s Test against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757, which England went on to lose, along with the series.
Having not won a series on Indian soil in 28 years, Flintoff reckons that the inclusion of KP in the side will only enhance the Poms chances of achieving a rare feat.
“He’s one of the best five players in the world. Going to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 is one of the final frontiers for English cricket. I just hope everything gets resolved,” the former skipper concluded.
