Andrew Flintoff for Paul Collingwood’s axing
Former England all-rounder Andrew Flintoff has said that it is about time for the English selectors to take note of the steady decline of Paul Collingwood who has failed to make an impact during the 2010-11 Ashes series.
Collingwood has averaged a measly 15.5 per innings and has failed to play an important role for his team. His place could be taken by hard-hitting batsman Eoin Morgan who has performed brilliantly for England in the shorter format of the game.
Flintoff has backed Morgan to replace Collingwood. "Morgan is as mentally tough as anyone I've seen emerge recently. He's got the million dollar shots but they're so finely tuned he cuts out a lot of risk. There's a bit of the Kevin Pietersen in his ability
to improvise and make risky shots look simple and he is as cool as they come under pressure," Flintoff wrote in his column for a newspaper.
He went on to state that despite the fact Collingwood has served England for a long time now and is liked by the management, that reason alone was not enough to retain him especially since he has failed to perform for England when they need him.
"I know people bang on about not changing a winning side but if England want to become the best side in the world they have got to be ruthless," Flintoff stated.
Collingwood also failed to make an impact during the Test series between http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 and England during the summer of 2010. Pietersen was under immense scrutiny as well however, he ended his run drought by scoring a spectacular double century in the Ashes.
England have not lost a tournament during 2010 and have performed exceptionally well.
With the way England is performing, they would be serious contenders for the ICC World Cup 2011 set to begin in February. The One-Day series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 would start soon after the end of fifth Test and it is expected that England would be making a
few changes to their side.
