Andrew Flintoff makes his return to club cricket with the Penwortham cricket club
Former England all-rounder, Andrew Flintoff, is coming out of retirement and has signed with the Penwortham cricket club. He will play in the upcoming http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Moore-c77694 & Smalley Palace Shield Competition. Freddie will be joining his brother Chris at Penwortham. Paul
Walmsley, club chairman, confirmed that the all-rounder has signed for his club and is subject to some paper work.
Walmsley said, “Andrew Flintoff has signed for Penwortham Cricket Club. His forms will be sent to the Palace Shield league officials for their subsequent approval.”
The 6ft 4in cricketer retired from international cricket in September 2010 because of a recurring knee injury. However, the cricket club is keen to play him once he recovers from his surgery. Walmsley is excited by this signing and expressed, “We look forward
to seeing Freddie once he has recovered from recent surgery. He has expressed a keen interest to play alongside Chris and he will, of course, be made more than welcome.”
Freddie is an iconic figure in English cricket and the club will benefit immensely from his arrival. It is to be noted that Penwortham is not a big club, so the news will grab a lot of media attention which will bring investment into the club.
Flintoff, a former Lancashire player, is considered as one of the best all-rounder English cricket has ever produced. He has represented his country in 79 Tests and 141 one day internationals. He has taken 226 Test wickets at an average of 32.78 while he
has scored 3845 runs at 31.77. His record in the 50 over format is even more impressive, claiming 169 victims at 24.38 and scoring 3394 runs at an average of 32.01.
The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Lancashire-c806 man was one of the hardest hitting batsman of his time. He was also amongst the most expensive cricketers in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The Chennai Super Kings signed him for $ 1, 550, 000.
He last played for his country in a Test match against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 at the Oval on 23 August, 2009. The English team won that match by 197 runs and also won that series 2-1. The batsman has been out of action since then because of injuries and surgery. If the
33-year-old cricketer were to be fit, he would certainly be a part of the Poms outfits in the ICC World Cup 2011 being jointly hosted by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747.
Poms would have been in much better position with him around in their squad. They were tagged as one of the favourites to lift the coveted trophy but on Wednesday, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ireland-c751 stunned the cricketing world when they chased a mammoth total of 327 runs, the highest
run chase of World Cup history, and beat England.
England will play http://www.senore.com/Cricket/March-c74391 at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai in a must win situation.
