Andrew Fonfara vs. Byron Mitchell on the cards – Boxing news
Andrew ‘Polish Prince’ Fonfara is scheduled to take on former two-time super middleweight world champion Byron Mitchell on March 16 at the UIC Pavilion in Chicago.
The bout between both the fighters will be for the IBO-USBO title.
Andrew ‘Polish Prince’ Fonfara is ranked as a light heavyweight fighter by the WBO with 20 wins, 2 losses and 11 knockouts in his bag, whereas Byron Mitchell has 29 wins, 9 losses and 22 knockouts in his profile.
Commenting on the finalisation of the fight, Marek Fonfara, Fonfara’s manager and brother, stated, “We already have a verbal agreement with Mitchell.”
Adding more to it, Sam Colonna, Andrew Fonfara’s trainer remarked, “Andrew is only 24 years old with great talent and needs to fight experienced fighters. Byron is the guy. He knows all the tricks in the book, was a world champion and I’m sure he’ll be able
give Fonfara all he can handle, but we are very confident about the outcome.”
Initially, there were talks of Fonfara fighting on March 17. However, the fight date was changed later on since Fonfara’s trainer to Donovan George came in the way. Donovan ‘Da Bomb’ George will be fighting Edwin ‘La Bomba’ Rodriguez on March 17 now, and
the bout will be televised by HBO.
Commenting on this change in plan, the trainer said, “I’m extremely happy we were able to this. I’ve been with those guys from the day one, and just leaving one of them in the most important bouts of their lives alone would kill me.”
As of now, Fonfara will be taking on Byron Mitchell on March 16 for the IBO-USBO title. The youngster has been winning all the fights he has been put into since 2009. The last victories he bagged were through KO’s.
Therefore, at this moment, Fonfara is in great shape whereas the much older Byron seems to be at the end of his days. The fight will be an extremely enthralling one as experience will meet rage to decide which force will dominate. Fonfara who has spent most
of his time in the Windy City since 2006 is confident of his abilities and wants to go for the match as soon as possible.
