Andrew Ford dominates Men’s 200m IM heats - Canadian Olympic & Paralympic Trials
Andrew Ford of GMAC dominated the preliminary rounds of Men’s 200m Individual Medley (IM) on final day of the Canadian Olympic and Paralympic Trials in Montreal on Sunday, April 1.
The 22-year-old Ford enjoyed an advantage of almost one body length over his following swimmer and ensured his place in the final round as top contender for gold medal.
With his tremendous efforts, he cruised his way towards the finishing end by clocking a time of 2 minutes and 01.83 seconds. Ford was followed by Matthew Kwatyra of LAC, who stayed nearly three seconds behind his former finisher and clocked an effort of 2 minutes and 04.31 seconds to qualify as the second best swimmer.
The 18-year-old Kwatyra was chased by Gleb Suvorov of ESWIM, who suffered a deficit of 0.12 seconds from his former finisher and completed his swim in a time of 2 minutes and 04.43 seconds.
The fourth finest spot of the race was secured by, Jake Tapp of LOSC, who remained 0.23 seconds slower from his preceding swimmer and qualified into the final round by posting an effort of 2 minutes and 04.66 seconds.
The 23-year-old Tapp was followed by Mack Darragh of OAK, who was also 0.23 seconds slower from his former finisher and qualified into the final as fifth best finisher with the timing of 2 minutes and 04.89 seconds.
He was trailed by Lyam Dias of PCSC, who remained almost two strokes slower from his foregoing competitor and proved his mettle for the sixth best spot of the event by producing a time of 2 minutes and 05.16 seconds.
Dias remained in a lead of 0.11 seconds over his teammate, Steven Bielby, who remained just one stroke slower from him and transpired on the finishing blockade by touching the wall in a time of 2 minutes and 05.27 seconds.
The 22-year-old Bielby was chased by David Dimitrov of LLSC, who was only 0.28 seconds slower and qualified into the wall with an effort of 2 minutes and 05.55 seconds for eighth position.
Furthermore, the session ended after the conclusion of all planned events.
