Andrew Gemmell wins Men’s 10km gold: Day one – 2012 Open Water National Championship, Fort Myers
Andrew Gemmell stunned the audience by winning gold medal of the Men’s 10km swim on opening day of the 2012 Open Water National Championship at Miromar Lakes Beach & Golf Club in Fort Myers, Florida on Friday, April 27.
The 21-year-old Gemmell, who won silver medal of the same discipline at the 2009 Rome World Championships, met expectations of his supporters by clinching gold medal of his main event.
With his stupendous efforts, he stayed prominently ahead of his challengers throughout the 10km discipline and crossed the finishing line with an effort of 1 hour, 58 minutes and 03.875 seconds for the title of the discipline.
His irresistible effort remained nearly nine seconds ahead of Janardan Burns of Mission Viejo Nadadores-CA, who reached the finishing end for silver medal by clocking an effort of 1 hour, 58 minutes and 12.454 seconds.
The third spot of the discipline was secured by David Heron, who stepped on the medal rostrum for bronze medal by posting a time of 1 hour, 58 minutes and 15.861 seconds.
His efforts were trailed by Joey Pedraza of Unattached, who remained marginally behind him and emerged on the finishing line for fourth position by producing a time of 1 hour, 58 minutes and 16.012 seconds.
With his immaculate efforts, Pedraza remained nearly three seconds ahead of Arthur Frayler, who ended his race in a time of 1 hour, 58 minutes and 19.674 seconds.
Sixth position of the discipline was secured by JK Koehler of Dayton Raiders-OH, who stayed almost 11 seconds away from overpowering his former finisher and touched the wall with the timing 1 hour, 58 minutes and 30.109 seconds.
Subsequently, Bryan Dragonowsky of Germantown Academy Aquatic CI-MA snared seventh fastest spot of the event as he completed his race with an effort of 1 hour, 58 minutes and 31.690 seconds.
Dragonowsky was trailed by Daniel Graviss of First Colony Swim Team Inc-GU, who concluded his race with an effort of 1 hour, 58 minutes and 41.831 seconds.
Furthermore, winners were awarded accolades for their notable efforts while the championship will end on April 29 after the conclusion of 5km swims.
