Andrew Georgiou earns his spot at Nelson Mandela Championship
Andrew Georgiou had a wonderful 2012 season on the Sunshine Tour. He recorded five top-ten finishes but has also missed the cut in two events.
Andrew has been giving a consistent performance throughout the year, and he has proved his mettle at the right time.
The South African shot a 66 at Selborne Park Golf Club to claim one of the ten spots available for the Nelson Mandela Championship, presented by ISPS Handa.
Georgiou was in a terrific form, as he carded a magnificent round to secure his presence at the inaugural Nelson Mandela Championship.
“It is good to be back in the thick of it. It is my first time qualifying in a while and I knew that you have got nothing to lose when you qualify”.
“That gives you a positive, aggressive mindset and that is what got me through today,” Andrew Georgiou said after a successful campaign at Selborne Park Golf Club.
The 26-year-old finished six below the card alongside Steve Surry.
“I started on the 10th and made three birdies through the first four holes, but then I dropped two shots before the turn. That just makes you push your mindset and you play more aggressive than before, and it paid off, because I shot 31 on my second nine,”
said Georgiou.
The South African also featured in the PGA Tour, Q-school event at the Lion of Africa Cape Town Open two weeks ago.
However, he finished T22 and failed to earn his maiden PGA Tour card. Nevertheless, he has gained tremendous confidence from his outing at Erinvale Golf Club.
Andrew will be looking to sign off his brilliant 2012 season on a high note, with most preferably a victory at the Royal Durban Golf Club this week.
The €1-million tournament will be attracting many top golfers from the European Tour and Sunshine Tour.
Nelson Mandela Championship will be the last tournament of the Sunshine Tour. Whereas, for the European Tour players, this will be their start to the 2013 season.
Players from both the tours will be aiming to do well at the Royal Durban Golf Club.
