Andrew Govorov snares Men’s 50m freestyle title: Day one – 2012 Ukraine Summer Cup
Andrew Govorov snared gold medal of the Men’s 50m freestyle on first day of the 2012 Ukraine Summer Cup in Kharkiv on Monday, May 7.
Govorov remained considerably ahead of his challengers from the beginning of the event. He showed no mercy to his challengers and reached the finishing end for gold medal.
With his epic start, he earned a marginal lead over his opponents in the first half while he elevated his pace in the second half and tapped the wall for gold medal by posting a time of 22.48 seconds.
The champion was followed by Vladimir Sushchyk of Sticks, who was almost 0.80 seconds behind and settled on the victory stand for silver medal by submitting a time of 23.21 seconds.
Sushchyk was chased by Yuri Yehoshyn of SLM, who remained 0.23 seconds apart and proved his eligibility on the medal rostrum for bronze medal by producing a time of 23.44 seconds.
Fourth position of the event was obtained by John Ocheredko of DPR, who was just 0.03 seconds slower from his foregoing finisher and hit the finishing end with the timing of 23.47 seconds.
With his immaculate efforts, he remained only 0.01 seconds faster from Bogdan Plavin of MCL, who secured fifth fastest spot of the event by producing a time of 23.48 seconds.
The sixth best spot of the race was gained by Nazar Malaniuk of Sticks, who stayed 0.21 seconds behind and submitted a time of 23.69 seconds.
His gruelling effort remained 0.02 seconds faster from Andrew Yaskov of RVN, who failed to outsmart his preceding swimmer over the finishing end and emerged on the wall as seventh position holder with the timing of 23.71 seconds.
Yaskov was traced by Arthur Artamonov, who was unable to surpass any of his challengers and ended his swim in the last place by reporting a time of 23.73 seconds.
The players received a huge round of applause from the audience for their notable efforts in the single lap freestyle event whereas the position holders were invited on the victory stand for medals and accolades at the prize ceremony of the championship.
