Andrew Govorov wins Men’s 100m freestyle title: Day one – 2012 Ukraine Summer Cup
Andrew Govorov of DPR won gold medal of the Men’s 100m freestyle on initial day of the 2012 Ukraine Summer Cup in Kharkiv on Monday, May 7.
After winning gold medal of the 50m freestyle earlier at the championship, Govorov gained much confidence for his next swim and easily thrashed hopes of his opponents by claiming gold medal of the event.
With his invincible efforts, he remained almost two strokes ahead of his strongest opponent on the finishing end for gold medal as he clocked a time of 51.23 seconds.
His title-claiming effort remained 0.21 seconds faster from Bogdan Kazakov of ANW, who earned silver medal of the event by clocking a time of 51.44 seconds.
The second position holder was followed by Yuri Yehoshyn of SLM, who suffered a deficit of just 0.08 seconds and posted a time of 51.52 seconds for third position.
His bronze claiming effort was chased by Vladimir Sushchyk of Sticks, who was 0.24 seconds apart and settled on the finishing end as fourth position holder by reporting a time of 51.76 seconds.
In the meantime, the crowd witnessed gruelling efforts of Govorov’s team-member, Alexander D, who remained just an inch slower from his preceding swimmer and completed his race in a time of 51.80 seconds for fifth position.
Sixth best spot of the race was secured by John Ocheredko of DPR, who stayed 0.18 seconds slower from overpowering his foregoing finisher and tapped the wall with an effort of 51.98 seconds.
Subsequently, Glazunov Ilya of DON stayed just a touch away from his preceding swimmer as he transpired on the finishing end for seventh position by reporting a time of 52.02 seconds.
The last spot of the race was secured by Herman Lopushansky of LUG, who remained nearly two strokes behind and earned eighth position of the event with the timing of 52.20 seconds.
In addition, the championship ended after the completion of all listed events in Men and Women’s category while the position holders were awarded accolades for their notable efforts in the 100m event at the medal distribution ceremony of the championship.
