Andrew Higginson admits getting into top 16 has always been his dream – Snooker news
The 33-year-old from Widnes, Andrew Higginson, who defeated the world number one snooker player John Higgins in the Players Tour Championship event five, is now on the verge of getting into the world’s top 16 players.
The Englishman admitted securing a place in the top 16 has always been his dream.
Higginson, who currently holds the 23rd spot in the world rankings, produced a high standard game at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield to stun the reigning world champion and four-time Crucible winner, John Higgins.
This was Higginson’s first professional title in his 16-year career. Furthermore, this win has pushed him on the edge of the world top 16, with just one more PTC event left.
Higginson, who collected 10,000 pounds as prize money, told the he is working hard to book a spot amongst the best 16 players. The Brit, whose previous best performance was to reach the 2007 Welsh Open, stated he is not worried even if he does not make it
as he said he is pretty delighted upon getting so close.
“Getting into the top 16 is one of my main goals,” added Higginson. “There are six or seven other players fighting for it and I had to win this to give myself a chance. I'm in the mix now and we'll see how it goes next week. But if I don't make it this time
then at least I'm getting close to it.”
The Players Tour Championship’s last event, PTC6, will take place on this Thursday, September 29, 2011 at the Arena Ursynow in Warsaw, Poland before the seeding list is revised.
All that is left to see is whether Andrew Higginson, can really find a berth in the top 16 players or not, as the top 16 players will automatically earn themselves a chance in the UK Championship and The Masters.
