Andrew Higginson believes Jamie Jones is tough opponent: 2012 World Snooker Championship
After putting up an excellent snooker display in the 2012 World Snooker Championship qualifying session at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield, England’s Andrew Higginson successfully made his way into the first round of the event where he faced the 2011-12
Players Tour Championship (PTC) Grand Finals winner, compatriot Stephen Lee.
Higginson played impressively against Lee and beat him by the score line of 10-6 to set up Jamie Jones clash in the second round.
The Englishman is hoping for a tremendous finish in the World Snooker Championship as he has come this far with mere hard work and determination. However, he still believes that the Welshman Jamie Jones is one of the tough opponents in the line-up. Jones
is a tremendous player on the professional circuit and has the tendency to unsettle his opponents.
Jones played his opening match against the former World Snooker Champion from England, Shaun Murphy and displayed outstanding snooker skills to oust the experienced Murphy by a close score line of 10-8. Higginson appreciated Jones’ potting abilities and
reckoned that the Welshman is a worthy opponent to play in the Championship.
While speaking to the media, Higginson said, “Jamie wasn’t gifted the match against Shaun Murphy, he won it and played really well. Everyone was expecting Murphy to get through and all the seeds, but the standard of the game is very very high and Jamie deserves
to be where he is because of the way he played.”
He added about his match against Lee, “Stephen’s been the most consistent player over the last three or four months, he’s been the best player in the world in my eyes, so to play him and to get one over on him is an achievement in itself, so I’m thrilled.”
The Higginson-Jones clash will be interesting to watch as both cuemen have worked really hard to make it to the Championship and are in good shape so far. Their performances in the opening round clearly prove that they are determined to make an appearance
in the game. Higgins will be looking to put in a good performance against Jones in the next round.
