Andrew Higginson clinches a close game against Jamie Jones in Round 2: 2011-12 PTC Grand Finals
After a tussling encounter at the Bailey Allen Hall arena in Galway, Ireland, England’s Andrew Higginson grabbed stunning win over the Welshman, Jamie Jones who trashed the reigning World Snooker Champion John Higgins. The match up was quite tough and Higginson
had to stay alert and pressurise his opponent who was in good form.
Higginson held his nerve during his second round clash against the Welshman and clinched the game to make his way into the quarter-final stage of the 2011-12 Players Tour Championship (PTC) Grand Finals. The 34-year-old Higginson tumbled down in the 2012
German Masters against the former three-time World Snooker Champion, Ronnie O’Sullivan after he was leading 4-0 as he could not handle the pressure.
However, this time he was focused in the game and did not let his opponent take over him easily. He played sensibly avoiding any silly misses and was able to maintain his hold on the contest which benefitted him in the end. With the help of some classy shots,
the Cheshire potter ensured his dominance from the beginning which finally paid off for him.
After winning the second round clash, Higgins said to World Snooker, “I thought I'd won the match 4-2 then I just took my eye off the red. He potted a great black and then I thought I might have blown it. I had to put that out of my mind very quickly and
I made a really good break.”
He added, “I felt I was unlucky to lose that match against Ronnie in Berlin and I took a lot of positives out of it because I handled myself well in front of a big crowd. Since then I've lost a couple of matches so it's good to get back on track. I was the
only player to win at least one match in all 12 PTC events so I definitely deserved to be here”
The World Number 20 breezed past Jones with a superb 2-0 lead early in the match after pocketing two cracking knocks of 48 and 120. Soon Jones got back into the game with impressive display of his potting skills to pull level at 3-3 and drag the game into
the decisive set. The final frame finished in favour of Higginson after he put in a marvellous contribution of 95 points to touch the 4-3 winning score line.
