Andrew Higginson hopeful for strong run in new snooker season – Snooker News
Last snooker season was a convincing finish for the Englishman Andrew Higginson as he played consistently throughout the season. Despite the fact that he was not able to win any major ranking snooker tournament but still he managed to win the 2011-12 Players
Tour Championship (PTC) Event 5. However, he finished the season convincingly at the World Number 18 rank.
The new snooker season has begun with the 2012 Wuxi Classic tournament qualifying session at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield. Higginson has been seeded automatically in the opening round of the 2012 Wuxi Classic, despite being on the 18th
rank. His promotion to the initial round is because a couple of potters are not participating in the tournament.
Higginson will not play in the qualifying sessions and will directly surge into the 2012 Wuxi Classic, the 2012 Australian Goldfields Open and the 2012 Six-Red Snooker Challenge. The Englishman is hoping for a positive run in the new season as he has got
a golden chance to remain in the World’s Top 16 potters by making a good start of the events.
He wrote in his blog post on the World Snooker’s official website, “I got an email from World Snooker last week to say that I have been seeded automatically into the first two ranking events of the season, the Wuxi Classic and Australian Goldfields Open,
as well as the Six-Red World Championship in Thailand.”
The Englishman further added, “I'm really looking forward to the new season and hope it's a good one.”
The potters who will not be taking part in the Chinese event are the four-time World Snooker Championship winner, England’s Ronnie O’Sullivan because he has not signed the contract for the new season, and the seven-time World Snooker Champion, the legendary
Stephen Hendry as he announced his retirement from World Snooker last season during the 2012 World Snooker Championship.
It will be interesting to see how Higginson picks up his game and puts in a good consistent performance during the start of the new season. The absence of O’Sullivan in certain tournaments this season will definitely disappoint his fans.
