Andrew Higginson qualifies automatically for 2012 Wuxi Classic and 2012 Australian Goldfields Open
Start of the new snooker season has been outstanding for the Englishman Andrew Higginson as he has been chosen to be seeded automatically for the 2012 Wuxi Classic snooker event, the 2012 Australian Goldfields Open and the 2012 Six-Red World Championship
despite the fact that he is not in the World top 16 potters.
Higginson is currently the World Number 18 but due to the absence of a couple of potters from the World Top 16, he automatically qualified for the initial rounds of the mentioned events. Now the Englishman will not have to play the qualifying session of
these events.
This is a unique opportunity for Higginson to improve his ranking by playing impressively in the 2012 Wuxi Classic and the 2012 Australian Goldfields Open.
In his blog post on World Snooker, Higginson said, “I got an email from World Snooker last week to say that I have been seeded automatically into the first two ranking events of the season, the Wuxi Classic and Australian Goldfields Open, as well as the
Six-Red World Championship in Thailand.”
He added, “Obviously there were some of the top 16 who didn't enter, so as I'm number 18 I don't have to qualify. That's great news for me and a reward for climbing up the rankings.”
Higginson was unable to cash the opportunities he had in the previous season and tumbled down in the rankings on number 18. He had a poor season as he did not win any major ranking snooker event except the 2011-12 Players Tour Championship (PTC) Event 5.
He defeated the former four-time World Snooker Championship winner from Scotland, John Higgins by the score line of 4-1.
Meanwhile, the first round line up of the 2012 Wuxi Classic is almost complete. Just a couple of qualifying matches are left to complete the fixtures of the tournament. Higginson will face the winner of qualifying match between the Welshman Ryan Day and
the Englishman Robert Milkins. It will be exciting to see how Higginson manages to build up some confidence and carry some of his winning momentum forward. Higginson is a tremendous player and he will be looking to put in a good performance.
