Andrew Higginson satisfied with previous snooker season run – Snooker Update
Previous snooker season finished successfully with the finish of the 2012 World Snooker Championship at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield. The proceedings of the 2012-13 Snooker Season has begun with the qualifying session of the 2012 Wuxi Classic snooker
tournament, which is now a major ranking event, at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield.
The line-up of World Top 16 is set to face the challengers who emerge from the qualifying session. The snooker governing body, World Snooker has made some changes in the first round line up. Due to the absence of a couple of potters of the Top 16 ranks,
the association has promoted England’s Andrew Higginson in the Top 16 line up, despite the fact that he is World Number 18.
Higginson made it to the World Number 18 rank with his convincing performance in the 2011-12 Snooker Season. However, the Englishman was unable to win any major ranking snooker event, despite his consistent snooker performance. The only noticeable victory
he clinched was the title of the 2012 Players Tour Championship (PTC) Event 5 and he is satisfied with it. He will be looking for a more consistent effort on his part to achieve some success.
Higginson wrote in his log on the World Snooker site, “Looking back at the season overall, I was very consistent, other than a blip in the new year when I lost a few matches. I'm up to number 18 in the rankings, and although I only moved up a few places,
it's good to be heading in the right direction.”
He added, “I have very fond memories of the PTC Grand Finals in Galway when I got to the semi-finals, and of winning PTC5 when I beat John Higgins in the final.”
The potters who are absent in the initial round are the former seven-time World Snooker Champion from Scotland, Stephen Hendry, because he announced his retirement from the professional snooker during the 2012 World Snooker Championship and the four-time
World Snooker Champion from England, Ronnie O’Sullivan, who has not signed the contract of the new season. It will be interesting to see how the new season shapes up as some of the younger players are now making their way up.
