Andrew Hilditch determined to continue
Australian chairman of selectors Andrew Hilditch has come under the radar after suffering a thumping defeat against England in the 2010-11 Ashes but he claims that he will not quit until he is told that his services are no longer required.
The chairman’s contract will expire in April 2011 but he said that he would like to carry on with the role he has been offered since 2006. Hilditch said that he has been doing his job with full commitment by selecting the best possible Australian squad for
every series.
He said that he has the same level of motivation and love for Australian cricket which he had for so many years. Hilditch stated, “I have still got the same passion for everything I can give to Australian cricket, I only do it for one reason and that is
I love Australian cricket.”
Hilditch named Tim Paine in the Twenty20 squad and preferred the youngster over Brad Haddin. The move was criticised by many and Haddin considered this move as “odd” after the chairman of selectors had named him the best wicketkeeper for Australia in all
three formats of the game.
The manager of Haddin, Peter Lovitt claimed that the exclusion of the star wicketkeeper from the Twenty20 side was not discussed with him. However, Hilditch dismissed these claims saying that he had discussed the move with Haddin prior to announcing the
squad.
After the Ashes loss, Hilditch stood by his decisions and said the best available squad for Australia was chosen and the selectors did a very good job. Hilditch’s comments drew a lot of criticism and in reply, he said, “To the extent that someone thinks
that we're not disappointed with the result, I'm disappointed those comments were taken that way.”
He further added that the biggest disappointment of the loss is for the selection panel. He also said that the squad chosen for the series was considered the best by the selectors and they thought it was capable of winning matches.
England and Australia will play a two-match Twenty20 series followed by a seven-match One Day series. A win for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 seems to be the only way for the selectors and players to answer the criticism.
