Andrew Hilditch supports the decisions of Australian selectors
The chairman National Selection Panel, Andrew Hilditch, while favouring the decisions of the Australian selectors, has said that they have done a very good job. The chairman had the nerve to come up with this statement when the home side earned an embarrassing
defeat against the traditional rivals England in the Ashes series by 1-3.
The chairman called upon the media personnel shortly after the visitors from England claimed an innings victory in the final test match and left the host team at rock bottom. However, Hilditch, the former opener was of the view that blame of the defeat should
not be put on the selectors.
Sharing his view point he said, “I think we’ve done a very good job, the selection panel, but the reality is we were totally outplayed. You just can’t get away from that fact that they were better than we were. We put a side on the paddock that we expected
to compete really well and they (England) gained momentum probably at the start of the Adelaide Test match. We regained it a little bit in Perth but I’d say only a little bit, and then we lost it again in Melbourne. That’s the way the games went, England took
their chances and I’ve got to say I thought they were superb.”
While clearing the position of the selectors, the chairman said that a number of issues were unnecessarily being involved into the selection making procedures. Dwelling upon the pragmatics, he stressed upon the players to give their best on the field.
He said that he had already warned the players that in order to claim the Ashes, it was important for them to perform well against the visitors. He was of the view that his team did not play to its best, and on the contrary, the English team played as well
as it could.
Talking in context of the calls which demanded him to vacate the post, the legend said that he had no plans of doing so. He claimed that he had taken the responsibility with the aim to do his best for the Australian cricket, and that was the only thing he
had been doing so far.
He was of the view that he had a great passion for performing his job well, amid which, he was sure of going through the tough time successfully. However, he admitted that it was not going to be easy, rather it would be tough and demanding.
