Andrew Hodd signs new contract with Sussex
Andrew Hodd has signed a new two-year contract with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sussex-c852 that keeps him at the county until the end of the 2012 season.
Hodd has been at the county across two spells since 2003 and now seems to have settled in the side and is now competing to be the main wicketkeeper. He had a disappointing season over the summer and scored
only 319 runs in ten division two county championship games.
"I want to perform to the best of my ability. I'm definitely looking to cement my place in the side in all three formats of the game. I want to help the club move forward as much as possible. Obviously
we've gone up to Division One and we're serious about putting a title challenge in," he said.
Hodd's signing as a wicketkeeper at the county is hugely significant. He seems to be very focused, driven and this should have a very positive effect for the player during the 2011 season.
Big news
This is big news for the club because England wicketkeeper Matt Prior is also under contract as the Sussex wicketkeeper. This means that Prior is away from the Sussex set-up for long periods of time and
only makes a few domestic appearances per season.
It was very important for the club to get the future of Hodd dealt with because there may have been a slight panic over not having a regular top-class wicketkeeper at the county.
Hodd will now know that he has a better chance than ever to make an impression on the English game. It's up to Hodd to ensure that Prior cannot walk into the team on the few occasions he is available to
play for Sussex.
"One-day cricket worked quite well for me last year, but my Championship form fell off a little bit and I also got healthy competition from Ben [http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ben-Brown-c1131, a back up wicketkeeper]. I think that is good
for the both of us and hopefully it will spur me on to improve my game," he added.
