Andrew Hudson reveals South African batting shocked him in the ICC World Cup 2011

According to Hudson, “Throughout the World Cup, we felt that if something were to go wrong, it would be the bowlers that would let us down. Batting-wise, we had such a good top six that we didn't need to consider a hitter lower down the order. We felt the
top six would score the bulk of the runs.”
He further added that the target posted by the Kiwi team was achievable, saying, “Our achilles heel turned out to be our batting, which came from left field and was really unexpected. It was a gettable target, a game we should have won. If we hadn't have
been so measured at the crease, maybe things would have been different.”
South Africa have been known to choke in pressure situations and same was the case with them in the Mega Event this year. However, Hudson defended his team and said that they have achieved a lot in the past and have the ability to cope with pressure situations.
He quoted the example of the match against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746, in which the Proteas chased down 438, stunning one and all in the cricket fraternity. Hudson admitted that the team has struggled against smaller totals though, just like they did in the Mega Event against
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c749 in a pool game and New Zealand in the knockout match.
Although there has been a lot of disappointment in the country after a poor show in the World Cup, Hudson believes that there was no need for wholesome changes. He claimed that the selectors were looking for some players, who could battle in pressure situations
and guide the team to historic victories.
The South Africans were hot favourites to win the World Cup, considering the flexibility in their line-up. The team had quality batsman, express bowlers and for the first time in history, they had wizardry in the attack with promising spinners.
