http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757’s chances against England – Cricket News Update
South Africa's convenor of selectors, Andrew Hudson, is confident that the Graeme Smith-led Proteas squad would tackle the world number one ranked England quite well when the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Titans-c856 clash in the three-Test series at the latter’s backyard
next month.
CSA selectors, on Wednesday picked an unchanged squad from the one that defeated http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 1-0 in a three-Test away series in March this year.
"The players fully deserve a vote of confidence after the outstanding manner in which they outplayed New Zealand away,” Hudson told media reporters on Thursday.
“We are now building up excellent depth in both the batting and bowling departments,” he added further.
Labelling the 15-man Proteas squad as “awesome”, the 47-year-old former South African Test opener said that they have picked the most powerful and well balanced pool of players, and hoped the side would emulate its impressive performance
against the Kiwis earlier, in the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 encounters.
Whilst the Proteas hold an impressive in-form batting top-order, Hudson has his hopes attached with the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Dale-c52110 Steyn-led pace attack to do the most of the job.
Promising rookie pacer http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Vernon-Philander-c2753, who has recently been named CSA Player of the Year, will be making his debut trip to England and Hudson is hopeful the English conditions would suit him.
The Andrew Strauss-led Poms are currently placed at the top of the Test rankings, with the Proteas trailing them by just one point. In the upcoming three-Test series against South Africa, their Test number one status will be on the
line, and Hudson is confident that the Smith-led South Africa squad has the necessary fire-power to dethrone the Poms.
The opening Test between the two outfits will kick start at the Oval in London, from July 19, followed by a match at Headingley (from August 2) and at Lord’s (from August 16).
Lack of match practice in English conditions would not be a problem for the tourists said Hudson, as they will play two warm up games – a two-day match against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kent-c802 (July 13-15) – in the lead-up to the Test
series.
