Andrew Ladd scores in shoot-out as Atlanta Thrashers defeat the Ottawa Senators 5-4 – NHL Recap

The second game of Sunday was played at the Philips Arena as the home team the Atlanta Thrashers handed the Ottawa Senators a 5-4 defeat after Andrew Ladd scored the game winner in the shoot-out. The game was very important for the Thrashers who needed a
win if they wanted to stay alive in the National Hockey League play-off race, while the Senators were looking for a win to improve their standings.
The first 20 minutes of play were pretty much even which saw both teams coming up with some strong attacks and scoring a goal apiece. The second period saw the Thrashers dominating the period in the offence and they scored twice to get into the lead. The
Senators managed to score a goal as well, but the Senators were on target twice in the final period while the Thrashers scored once. The period ended with the score level on 4-4 and the game went into over-time. No goals were scored, but it was the Thrashers
who won the game 5-4 after the shoot-out. Ben Maxwell, centre of the Thrashers was named the Star of the Game, as he scored a goal and made an important assist.
The game started off with both teams attacking right from the word go. With accurate and quick passing, both teams were able to get behind the defence and it was just a matter of time when the first goal would be scored.
The Thrashers got into the lead after a lot of hard work in the fifth minute with Blake Wheeler scoring from a decent tip-in shot. The Senators were not far behind and did not let the Thrashers run away with it, putting the puck in the back of the net in
the very next minute to level the score. The goal was scored by Marek Svatos from a brilliant back-hand shot.
The period ended with the score level on 1-1 as the Thrashers made 10 shots on goal while the Senators made seven.
The second period began with the Thrashers dominating the game, as they piled up shot after shot. The Thrashers, with some strong shooting, managed to score in the 11th minute to get into a two goals lead. The goals were scored by Bryan Little
and Ben Maxwell from decent strikes.
The Senators also scored in the 14th minute through Chris Nell from a tip-in shot to trail by a single goal. The period ended with the Thrashers leading 3-2, as they made 22 shots during the period while the Senators made 11 attempts.
The final period started off with the Thrashers scoring in the third minute through Mark Stuart to double their advantage. However, the Senators scored in the 8th minute through Erik Condra and then through Marek Svatos to level the score.
The period ended with the score level on 4-4, as the Thrashers made 13 shots on goal while the Senators made eight attempts. The game went into over-time, but no goals were scored, forcing a shoot-out. Andrew Ladd scored and the Thrashers emerged as 5-4
winners of the game after the shoot-out.
