Andrew Luck and Indianapolis Colts expectations: Will he be another Peyton Manning?-NFL Feature Part III
Continued from part II...
Indianapolis Colts’ new quarterback, Andrew Luck, has marked the beginning to his professional football career the way his predecessor QB, Peyton Manning, had done way back in 1998.
Even though Luck has humbly conceded the difficulty of matching Manning’s standards, there is more than one common ground between them.
For example, both players are top draft prizes of their respective times. Both are respective winners of Heisman Trophy.
Fathers of both players have played the professional league as QBs, respectively. In fact, their fathers are good friends. Both have the humble personality.
As a matter fact, Luck has proven himself to be more matured than his age. He will be probably better than Manning in some comparisons.
For example, he is more composed and has a presentable personality but does not look as tough as Peyton.
So, by and large, both players can be best compared with each other, irrespective to the fact they would definitely have their own respective positives and negatives, strengths and weaknesses.
For this and many other reasons, NFL fans, commentators and most importantly Colts’ owner, Jim Irsay, foresee Luck to be future’s Peyton Manning despite the player admittedly believes that filling in Peyton’s shoes will not be easy at all.
Luck is rather looking up at Peyton as his college days’ hero and inspiration.
Peyton played for Colts every single season until 2011, and Luck will need to remain in good health and shape to match his standards.
Manning made and broke almost all previous records of Colts. It will be rather difficult for Luck to break those records again unless he proves himself to be a better player.
Only his performance in the future, starting from 2012 NFL season, is going to approve him as a player of higher talent and skills.
He is going to join the team formally in the month of June, just before the start of the preseason. He has to pass a couple of courses, which require him to head to his college straight after the team’s rookies mini-camp on the weekend.
The league rules prevent any player from taking part in any professional activity as long as he is associated with his school and college.
However, Irsay is aware of the fact and willing to accommodate him the best possible way he can.
Apparently, the owner is upbeat about his choice. The campaign to bring Luck to Indianapolis had been hit by some confusion about signing of the new QB.
Some indications from the managers made Baylor College’s QB, Robert Griffin III, as a potential candidate along with Luck.
Just a couple of days before the start of the draft, Irsay confirmed that Luck was their first choice.
Much of the controversy was down to the owner’s tweets claiming he was weighing both players and might face some difficulties in making his choice final.
However, Luck was their final choice and only time will tell whether he is able to live up to the expectations or not.
