Andrew Luck announces to go pro next NFL season – NFL News
Stanford College’s quarterback Andrew Luck who is being projected to be an undisputed top draft prize in the next year’s draft picks has announced to go professional from next American professional football’s season.
It had not been clear until last week whether Andrew will continue to stay amateur or decide to go pro from next drafts season starting from April next year (2012).
He however finally cleared all the confusion surrounding his choice by telling ESPN that he would definitely be going pro provided a team drafts him to its side.
“I think I’m going to hopefully play professional football,” Luck told the sports channel “if a team will have me.”
Luck has emerged at top of the list of 32 draft picks to be recruited by National Football League (NFL) franchises to their sides in next season.
Actual draft season starts in April every year. During the season the professional football teams draft rookie players from American football college league. This is the main source of football players’ recruitment into professional
teams.
A mock exercise of the draft season starts by the time NFL regular season halfway through, in November every year. A debate on rating and stature of the college league players among opinion makers and analysts leads up to draft
season. This clears rating and position of all draft picks by then, making it easier for teams to draft players into their sides.
The Pittsburgh Steelers who are at the bottom of National Football League (NFL) by losing all of 12 games they played this season are entitled to draft Andrew Luck. Under NFL rules a team which is rated at the bottom of NFL season
stands eligible for the best performing player from college league.
The Steelers have not commented officially about their decision of drafting Luck, however, there are few hints giving a clue that they will go for him.
It is uncertainty about recovery and return of their franchise quarterback Peyton Manning that is making the decision of selecting Luck more difficult for the Steelers.
Peyton Manning who had been ruled out of current NFL season initially now is expected to return at some point later this season. The latest tests results have confirmed that the player was progressing to full recovery.
The question however is whether the Steelers will keep both quarterbacks in case Peyton returns, which is very much certain in next season. Another question which should be of greater concern for the Steelers is whether both the
quarterbacks who are rated as good players respectively in their statures and games will be willing to play besides each other.
A statement from Peyton Manning’s father Archie Manning who has played NFL from 1971 to 1982 as quarterback at Carolina Panthers said both Manning and Luck will find fine playing next to each other.
The Pittsburgh Steelers however will have another option, in case both players decide against playing in presence of each other, that they can sign Luck and later trade him with any of other teams. NFL rules permit them to do so.
