Andrew Luck has not received final word from Indianapolis Colts – NFL News
Former Stanford quarterback, Andrew Luck, has said that the Indianapolis Colts, who have the first overall in the upcoming National Football League (NFL) drafts, have not informed him or his agent regarding selecting him.
Luck is expected to be the first overall pick in the drafts, but Colts will have the final say in the matter as they could also select any other player and make him the first overall pick.
A week earlier, it was widely anticipated that Colts will select Luck, but now Baylor’s Robert Griffin III (RGIII), who was initially considered as the second prospective draft prize, is giving tough time to Luck.
Both these players did not throw football during the NFL Scouting Combine and chose to throw it at their respective pro days.
RGIII was as impressive as Luck at the pro day, prompting the Colts to give a second thought before making a final call.
Colts are already undergoing a tough time and they would not want to make a decision, which they would regret later.
Recently, Colts parted ways with their 14-year veteran Peyton Manning, who is rated as one of the best quarterbacks of all time. Following the release, Colts are now looking to bring a replacement, who could fill in Manning’s shoes.
Recently, Colts also invited Luck to Indianapolis to have an individual workout session with him.
After that, Colts’ owner, Jim Irsay, asserted that he had not yet made any choice and was considering both Luck and RGIII.
Now, Luck’s statement has further clarified the position and it is still not known who the top draft prize will be.
In an interview, Luck said that he is in contact with the Colts, but, at the same time, he mentioned that he has not received any offer or final decision from the team.
He commented:
"I've been in contact with them, I've talked to coach (Chuck) Pagano, talked to coach (quarterbacks coach Clyde) Christensen, but, you know, they haven't come out and said that. I understand they've got their work to do, they've got their due diligence to go about. If it works out, great; if it doesn't, great as well."
The second overall pick is now owned by Washington Redskins and it is expected that if Colts select Luck, Redskins will acquire RGIII.
