Andrew Luck key to must but rare win for Indianapolis Colts vs Minnesota Vikings – NFL Preview
Now or never is a scenario for the Indianapolis Colts when they host the Minnesota Vikings at Lucas Oil Stadium this Sunday to give their fans something to cheer about after start of the season on losing note – the way they had begun and ended their past
season.
The game will likely be a breather for Colts rookie quarterback Andrew Luck, who struggled to get free from clutches of Chicago Bears’ defence in the opening game. At the same time, he can expect the Vikings coming on the field with no different plan as
far as suffocating his movement is concerned, although the team has beefed up protection around him.
Luck finished the game with 309 passing yards and a touchdown but after being made to work hard, he fumbled the ball and, most importantly, was sacked three times.
He said:
"That's definitely the thing I thought about last night, this morning, after the film again, four turnovers. You can't have that, especially when all four of them are on you."
It was not a bad performance from the rookie given the amount of pressure he was in during the game and before it, but the rest of the Colts were a depiction of a pathetic show-off. This reflects how far the team has to go as far as improving quality of
players at other positions is concerned.
Jim Irsay, the owner, will be in focus of fans in the forthcoming game. He is the direct blame of letting former star Peyton Manning leave Indianapolis irrespective of the fact that he had helped the side to many glories in the past before missing a season
(2011) with a neck injury.
Peyton had insisted he wanted to stay a Colt but Irsay, apparently dissatisfied and unsure about his health and fitness prospects, let him go. He has let almost everyone who was part of Manning-era leave Indianapolis since then, and now the team is led by
a brand new coach, general manager and players, including QB Luck.
Luck has become a subject of too many expectations in the rookie year, and while he remains to be a valuable player, his struggle to break away from the pressure bears no lofty promises for the team. He will probably be better off left alone to play his
natural game.
The Vikings’ game will be competitive fight between the two teams as both are raring to add win to their record. The Vikings defeated the Jacksonville Jaguars in a closely fought game last week, and if are able to topple the Colts, they can go 2-0 up on
the league’s points table.
A win for the Colts will open their account of victories, which are very rare to come by in Indianapolis.
