Andrew McCutchen’s four RBIs help Pittsburgh Pirates defeat Houston Astros 5-4 – MLB Update
Pittsburgh Pirates’ centre-fielder, Andrew McCutchen had a remarkable day with his bat as he hit four RBIs including two home-runs and went 2-for-3 with an average of .269 in the Pirates’ 5-4 victory over the Houston Astros at PNC Park, Pittsburgh on September
7.
Astros started superbly as they scored three runs during the first inning to get a convincing lead while the Pirates were able to score just one run to reduce their lead 3-1, at the bottom of first inning. Carlos Lee struck a two-run homer (352 feet) to
left-field and J.D. Martinez scored a single run.
Matt Downs hit a one-run homer (371 feet) towards left-field to complete a three-run campaign for Astros. On the other hand, McCutchen struck a solo homer (414 feet) towards right-centre to give some potential to the Pirates. The pitchers took charge in
the second and third inning and threw their respective innings beautifully.
Clint Barmes singled to left-field and Humberto Quintero singled to centre-field but the rest of the Astros’ batters seemed powerless in the second inning as Jimmy Paredes struck-out swinging and Jason Bourgeois flied out. Similarly, at the bottom of second
inning, Ryan Ludwick walked but Neil Walker flied out and Ronny Cedeno popped out to first base without taking even a single run.
At the bottom of third inning, Alex Presley struck-out, Josh Harrison grounded out and McCutchen popped out to second base without posting runs on the score-board. In the fourth inning, Astros raised their lead 4-1 when Barmes hit a one-run homer (376 feet)
towards left-field. Pirates’ batters kept alive themselves and smashed three runs during the fifth inning to tie the game 4-4.
Downs said, “We went up early, but there was a lot of game left when we went up. When you go up early, there's a lot of game left to fight back.”
McCutchen struck a three-run homer (391 feet) to left-field while Brandon Wood and Presley both added two consecutive runs to produce a thrill in the game. In the eighth inning, Pirates went ahead 5-4 when Jason Jaramillo singled to right-field by hitting
a grounder into double play, short-stop to right-field and right to catcher. Chase D’Arnaud scored a leading run when Ryan Doumit was thrown out at home plate.
After this exciting victory, Pirates won the three-game series 2-1 against Astros at Pittsburgh.
