A sensational half-century from Australia’s all-rounder, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 on Wednesday, July 6, 2011.
The visitors were put into bat and they played exceptionally well, scoring 191 runs for the loss of just four wickets in 19 overs. One over was lost per side due to a rain interruption.
McDonald would have been really upset with the lost over, as he remained unbeaten on 96 runs in the match. He could have easily scored a ton for his team if there was one more over in the innings.
The Aussie’s effort would have pleased the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Leicestershire-c807 dressing room and the fans though, as the team won the match in the end. Although it was a high scoring game, none other batsman from each sides was able to score a half-century.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Yorkshire-c867’s target was revised to 193 from 19 overs according to the Duckworth/Lewis (D/L) method. The team played well though, scoring 174 for the loss of nine wickets, but it wasn’t enough to win the match.
None of the home team’s players managed to reach thirties, as most of the batsmen got out after getting starts. The top scorer of the innings was opening batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MJ-Lumb-c1981 Sayers, who collected 27 runs.
Yorkshire’s captain, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Andrew-Gale-c1039, won the toss and elected to field first. His decision didn’t prove to be a good one, as the bowlers conceded a lot of runs, putting the team under immense pressure.
Leicestershire’s innings got off to a flying start, as openers, McDonald and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Joshua-Cobb-c1739 smashed the bowlers to all parts of the park. They collected 58 runs for the first wicket in quick time before the latter was dismissed after scoring 26 runs off 15
balls, hammering one four and two sixes.
Will Jefferson joined the Australian and both kept the momentum going, playing aggressive cricket. They put together 47 runs for the second wicket partnership, guiding the team’s total above 100.
Jefferson was unable to convert his start into a big innings and was sent back to the pavilion after adding 28 runs to the total from 21 deliveries.
Flamboyant Pakistani all-rounder, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Abdul-Razzaq-c41623, was promoted to bat at number four, but he got out after scoring 16 runs off 13 balls.
However, McDonald continued to dominate the bowlers and contributed 96 runs to the total from just 57 balls. He clobbered nine fours and three thunderous sixes in his blistering knock.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/David-Arlen-Wainwright-c52641 was the only bowler to concede less runs in his spell, as he gave away 24 runs for one wicket in four overs.
