Andrew Miller’s pitching helps Boston Red Sox defeat Texas Rangers 6-0 - MLB Update
Boston Red Sox starter, Andrew Miller had a notable day with the ball as he pitched just over six innings with an ERA of 4.42 and allowed just three hits in the Red Sox 6-0 victory over the Texas Rangers at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington, Texas on August
25.
During first inning, the Red Sox batters started extremely well as Adrian Gonzalez hit a solo homer (433 feet) towards centre-field to give Red Sox a 1-0 lead. In the second inning, Boston got a 2-0 lead when David Ortiz struck a one-run homer (398 feet)
to right-field. Third inning again went in favour of the Red Sox batters as they smashed two runs to advance their lead 4-0.
Gonzalez hit his second homer (416 feet) of the game towards left-centre and Jed Lowrie contributed his first run during third inning. Red Sox raised their lead 6-0 in the fourth inning when the batters took two runs. Jarrod Saltalamacchia hit a two-run
homer (392 feet) towards left-field and Carl Crawford posted a single run for the Red Sox.
Miller gave up two walks and had six strike-outs on his 83 pitches. He said, “It's huge when those guys go out there and score runs like that. It's certainly easier as a pitcher. You're just pitching to get out of the inning as quickly as you can and get
those guys back to the plate.”
Red Sox manager, Terry Francona said, “We have a lot of respect for (the Rangers) and they really beat us up a little bit, especially down here. But we played good tonight and that's what we wanted to do.”
The rest of the five innings were score-less as the batters failed to contribute well for their respective teams. Rangers’ batters seemed powerless at the bottom of fifth inning as Yorvit Torrealba flied out, Mike Napoli struck-out and Carlos Gentry grounded
out without adding even a single run.
At the bottom of seventh inning, Nelson Cruz drove a single-run shot to left-field but at centre-field, Michael Young and Torrealba both fouled out without giving the Rangers their initial run. Rangers missed some runs during ninth inning when Young and
Cruz both struck-out swinging and Josh Hamilton lined out to right-field.
After having an amazing victory, Red Sox confirmed a 3-1 win in the four-game series played at Texas.
