Andrew Murdoch, Jon-Paul Tobin, Jo Aleh and Olivia Powrie secure fourth place at Weymouth Bay
New Zealand’s Andrew Murdoch, Jon-Paul Tobin, Jo Aleh and Olivia Powrie have secured the fourth place in Laser class, RS:X Men class and 470 Women class respectively on the final day of 2011 Weymouth and Portland International Regatta at Weymouth Bay. The
Kiwi sailors made a superb sail during the event and clinched three medal races in 49er, RS:X Men and 470 Women category.
Kiwi Laser sailor Andrew Murdoch led the standings until the penultimate day but unfortunately he couldn’t perform up to his standards on the final day and with a ninth and second place, nudged down at number four in the overall Laser standings. However,
despite his bad form, he took the medal race of his respective class.
Jon-Paul Tobin also had a rough final day. He managed a 21st place finish in the penultimate race while a first place in the final race brought him at number four. He also won the medal race of RS:X Men class and added another medal to the Kiwi
sailing team’s bag.
Jo Aleh and Olivia Powrie had a convincing final day at 2011 Weymouth and Portland International Regatta under ideal sailing conditions, as the wind blew around 10 to 11 knots over the racing area. The 470 Women team of New Zealand clinched a first and a
seventh place on the final day along with a medal race victory to finish fourth in the overall standings.
