Andrew Schnell, Thomas Brinkman move into semi final – Saskatoon Boast Open 2011
Fourth seeded Canadian Andrew Schnell thrashed the more experienced Australian Scott Arnold by bouncing back from a set down to score 6-11, 11-9, 11-2, and 11-5 in just 38 minutes of play. The two players had taken up the challenge
at the Saskatoon Boast Open 2011 which is held in Canada.
The first set of the match was dominated by the 25 year-old Aussie as he had smashed a few rail shots with a lot of depth and by keeping the shot close to the sidewall he was first to take the lead. As he kept the momentum alive
he squandered away with the opening round.
However, he tried to make the same return in the second set but was unable to hold his service game. On the contrary, the home-boy had a crowd that cheered him on and boosted his performance. Moreover, by hitting the ball tight,
for several games, he forced his opponent to scrape his shots off the wall. This limited the Aussie’s option to only one return shot and eventually the fourth seeded Canadian clogged the second set.
The toe-to-toe run lost its steam in the third set as the 20 year-old fourth seed rushed past his adversary towards the finish line. On the other hand, Arnold was not only losing his serve but with a poor return nosedived in the
third set and ultimately lost all hope. He not only lost this set but also the last and the final set. Mean while, the fourth seeded Canadian managed to reserve a spot in the quarterfinal of the tournament.
Simultaneously in the other match that was between Canadian Thomas Brinkman and Scottish qualifier Jamie Macaulay, the 22 year-old Canadian ousted the Scotsman in 67 minutes of nail biting performance during the first round of
the Saskatoon Boast Open 2011.
Brinkman had scored 6-11, 10-12, 14-12, 11-6, 11-4 to finally reserve a spot in the quarterfinal. In the first two sets the Canadian was unable to set his rhythm and had hit a couple of out shots but he made a great comeback by
the third and the fourth set.
The winners of the two matches will be facing each other in the quarterfinal of the Saskatoon Boast Open 2011.
