Andrew Smith beats Luka Wraber in Men’s Singles semi-final at Slovenia International 2012
England’s upcoming player Andrew Smith stamped his supremacy when he reserved his place in Men’s Singles final after hammering Austria’s Luka Wraber in semi-final showdown at the FZ Forza Slovenia International 2012 on Saturday, May 12, in Slovenia.
The un-seeded Smith showed tremendous performance in the semi-final match of the event when he overpowered the higher ranked Wraber who was fourth seed in the Men’s Singles draw of the championship.
Smith was in his prime form while playing against his higher ranked Austrian opponent and managed to win the contest in two games while working hard for just 34 minutes in the court.
On the other hand, Wraber failed to continue his winning run in the championship as he failed to put up strong show against his lower ranked English opponent and lost the fight without showing any resistance.
In the first set, Smith did not waste any time in the court and took advantage in the game by setting up a remarkable lead at the early stage.
He remained on track without showing any mercy to his higher ranked opponent and managed a reasonable lead until the one-minute break.
After the interval, the English shuttler maintained his positive performance in the game while remaining focused in the court.
Smith worked really well throughout the first game and easily wrapped it up by a convincing 21-15 score on the board.
In the second game, Wraber tried to put up good show but failed to live up to expectation and struggled behind Smith on the score board.
Until the one-minute break, the lower ranked English shuttler was leading the game with a reasonable score on the board.
After the break, Smith continued his domination in the game without losing his focus and stretched his lead over his Austrian opponent.
The English shuttler was one class above his rival as he took the second game with a striking margin of 21-16.
Smith emerged as the winner in this semi-final encounter against Wraber with a 21-15 and 21-16 score on the board.
In the final of the tournament, Smith will be up against India’s Mohit Kamat who defeated Denmark’s Mathias Mundbjerg in the other semi-final clash.
